Super Sunday: Turning General Conference into Family Fun

The weather in Phoenix has officially lost its mind. We cracked triple digits in March—like, what? Summer decided to show up early and didn’t even bother knocking.

While everyone else is melting, we’re
gearing up for one of our favorite weekends of the year: General Conference… but with a twist.
This Sunday is extra special because it lands on Easter Sunday. For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, General Conference happens twice a year. It’s when we get to hear directly from the Prophet, the Apostles, and other Church leaders. Some families gather at the chapel, others (like us) watch from the comfort of home.

I’ll be honest—I used to find Conference pretty boring growing up. The best part was skipping regular church and getting to lounge on the couch, doodle, or scroll on my phone. But something has changed in the last few years. I’ve actually started looking forward to it.
We’ve turned it into what we call “Super-Sunday” — basically the Super Bowl, but for our family and the gospel.
Here’s how it works:
Everyone picks their favorite snacks (the junkier, the better—Conference calories don’t count, right?). Actually, this year, I'm going healthy...I kinda have to.💪😤🤙
We all take notes during the talks.
After each session, I ask questions about what we heard, and the kids (and adults) who get them right earn little treats.
During the hymn breaks, we make friendly “predictions” (I wouldn’t call them bets… but they’re definitely in that direction). My favorite one this time: “I’ve got a cosmic brownie that says President Uchtdorf is going to mention airplanes or flying within the first five minutes of his talk.” There are always challengers. The friendly competition makes it so much more fun.
It’s become a real family tradition now, and I love how it’s helped us all pay closer attention and actually discuss what we’re learning together.
So even though it’s already feeling like July outside, we’ll be inside with the AC blasting, surrounded by snacks, notebooks, and each other—listening, laughing, learning, and making memories.
Whether you’re a longtime member who’s always loved Conference, someone who’s still trying to stay awake through it, or just curious what this whole thing is about—maybe try adding a little fun to your weekend. A few snacks and silly challenges can make a big difference.
What are your family traditions for General Conference or Easter? I’d love to hear them in the comments!
Happy Easter and happy Super-Sunday, everyone.
Stay cool out there (literally and spiritually).
